Flight
Instructor Course
Welcome to the Flight Instructor Program here at Nice Air. The following
pages contain important information for the successful completion of the
course. If you have any questions about this document, please ask any
of the instructors during the first day of class.
Class times:
Class begins at 9:00am each day. Please make an effort to be on time as
the class begins promptly at 9:00 and interruptions of late arrivals distract
other students. Class ends at 4:50pm. You are encouraged to do any homework
or self study at the end of class.
Vending:
Nice Air has a vending area downstairs. You can purchase snacks, drinks
and sandwiches and soups for lunch. Please do not bring food into the
classroom. You may bring drinks into the class.
Home Study:
You may feel the need to study at home. Most people will require 2 - 4
hours of study time in a quiet place to review the day's notes and to
do any homework that was assigned. Please make sure that you can make
this time available.
Materials for you to Bring:
Please bring the following items to the class:
· E6B Flight Computer
· Calculator
· Plotter
· Pens
· Paper/Notebooks
· Pilot Certificate
· Medical Certificate
· Drivers License or Passport
Books:
You will be supplied with all of the books you will need for the course.
Please check that you are provided with the following books upon your
arrival:
· Airplane Flying Handbook - FAA-H-8083-3
· Pilot's Handbook of Aeronautical Knowledge - AC61-23
· A Systematic Way to Teach Flying - Notes
· Nice Air - Reprints of Selected Reference Material
Billing:
You will be billed for the course upon your arrival and attendance of
the first class. You will be billed a total of $2,450.00. This includes:
The flight instructor class, 5 hrs of individual instruction after the
class, 10 hours of flight instruction in the Piper Arrow III in preparation
for the rating, a Spin Endorsement (Up to 1 hour), Books as listed above.
Your bill will be presented to you during the first few days of the class.
Please pay the bill no later than the next day after receipt.
The course price does not include the following:
· The examiners fee $250.00 SAC - $ 400.00 Local
· The aircraft rental for the check ride. $79.00/hr wet hobbs.
· Any flight time over 10 hours in preparation for the check ride.
$114.00/hr Dual rate.
· The flight to and from the examiners place of business.
Written Examinations:
You are not required to have the written examinations passed prior to
attending class. We cannot, however, book a check ride for you until the
exams are passed. If you choose to prepare at Nice Air for the written
exams, we provide a practice test station with the Gleim test prep software
for Flight Instructor airplane and the Fundamentals of Instructing at
no cost.

COURSE DESCRIPTIONS:
FOI - Fundamentals of Instructing
-
The Learning Process, The Teaching Process, Teaching Methods, Evaluation,
Flight Instructor Characteristics, Flight Instructor Responsibilities,
Human Factors, Planning Instructional Activity, Creating a Lesson Plan,
Following a Syllabus using lesson Plans.
CRM - Cockpit Resource Management
Aero medical Factors, Visual Scanning and Collision Avoidance, Use of distractions
during flight training, Elements of CLR/CRM, CRM for the flight instructor
and student, Accident prevention using CRM techniques. This course also
includes Aeronautical Decision Making. (ADM).
POF - Principles of Flight
Basic Aerodynamics for flight instructors. Basic Aerodynamic terms, Boundary
layer and Laminar flow, Lift and angle of attack, Drag, Forces in flight,
Stalls, Spins, Stability, Lift Augmentation, Flight Controls, Aerodynamic
limitations.
Wt & Bal -
Theory and definitions, Basic Calculations, Center of gravity calculations,
Weight Shifts, Weight and Balance for the Piper Arrow III.
NIGHT - Night Operations -
Night Physiology, Runway and Airport lighting, Planning for Night Cross-Countries,
Oxygen requirements. Lighting required for night, Maintaining night currency.
Nav - Navigation and Cross Country Flight Planning -
Basic Navigation, Pilotage, Dead Reckoning, Radio Aids, Sectional Charts,
Flight Planning and Navigation Logs. E6B Mastery. Introduction to GPS.
MET - Meteorology Theory
-
The Atmosphere, Stability, Wind, Clouds and Precipitation, Thunderstorms,
Windshear, Icing, Visibility, Depressions and Fronts, AntiCyclones.
METPRAC - Practical Meteorology
-
METAR/TAF, Synoptic Chart, Prognostic Charts, Winds Aloft Table, Frontal
Movement, Weather associated with fronts, Weather Briefing Services available
from FSS.
AIM - Aeronautical Information
Manual -
Relevant sections of the Aeronautical Information Manual for Private and
Commercial Pilots.
Systems - Aircraft Systems

Piper Arrow and Cessna Fuel Systems, Engines, Electrical Systems, Landing
Gear and Hydraulic Systems, Flight Controls and Flaps, Pressure Instruments,
Gyro Instruments.
FAR 61 - FAA Part 61 Regulations
-
Requirements for airman certificates, Student pilot regulations, Private
and Commercial Pilot regulations, Flight reviews, Currency requirements,
Written test requirements, Flight Instructor regulations and Student Endorsements.
FAR 91 - FAA Part 91 Operations
-
General Operating Regulations. Airspace, Equipment requirements, low flying
rules, rights of way, Cloud clearances, etc.
Lesson Plan - Development
of Lesson Plans -
Practice developing and teaching lesson plans. Most time is devoted to
student presentation of the lesson plans previously designed. Homework
assignments for developing you own lesson plans on various topics.

PTS -
Private Pilot Practical Test Standards. Using the PTS and a complete introduction
to the notes sections.
Inst PTS - Flight Instructor
PTS -
Flight Instructor Airplane Practical test standards. Using the PTS and
a complete introduction to the notes section.
FltBrief - Flight Briefings
-
Complete preflight briefings for all Private and Commercial Maneuvers
and flight operations. Uses the systematic way to teach flying method
with individual flight exercises.
PERF - Aircraft Performance
Performance considerations, Charts, Applying A/C Data to current conditions,
Density Altitude, Correlation of Desired Performance from Chart to Flight
Plans.
